Philosophy

The EFF is passionate about supporting ambitious changemakers that have the vision and drive to tackle major social issues. We are particularly interested in those that are offering new and scaleable ideas for change, and are seeking to achieve scale through impact investment. We seek to identify and support the future leaders of the sector and help produce successful outcomes that are driven by talented leadership. To achieve this we aim to:

  • support and develop DGR1 social entrepreneurs on their pathway to impact investment, and those seeking to grow the impact investment sector in Australia and the Asia Pacific region;
  • support traditional charitable models proactively seeking to diversify their funding sources through the development of a social business at scale with the vision to grow this towards being investment ready;
  • collaborate with other funders and take a leadership role in promoting philanthropy by actively sharing with philanthropic foundations and individuals in Australia and beyond;
  • support social experimentation and innovative models that involve some risk, without compromising on business planning or execution;
  • seek to develop true partnership models through the practice of “engaged philanthropy” where possible by bringing our experience, knowledge, grantmaking and networks to develop these leaders and organisations, where this is sought by our non-profit partners;
  • measure our true impact – ‘counting what counts’ and building in evaluation from the earliest stages of funding;
  • develop respectful and authentic relationships with our non-profit partners, which do not involve onerous reporting requirements;
  • be responsive to changing circumstances, retaining the flexibility that makes private philanthropy unique and different to other forms of funding;

  • be prepared to support recurrent funding of programs and the infrastructure and capacity building of non profit organisations.
